Proposal

For my English paper on relating Alice in Wonderland to psychology, I'm going to write about how each character has a defense mechanism and show proof. OR I'm going to write about the psychology of eating and relate that to how Alice always eats and drinks something to become either big or small.

I haven't made my decision yet but it will most likely be the psychology of eating.

I don't think you can make a good enough argument on relating eating to Alice in Wonderland. I'd try the defense mechanism argument there's more evidence in that, and you already know about it in a professional way (being taught it directly by Professor Beaty) because it was part of our first lesson in psychoanalysis.

I think that emphasizing more on how Alice's eating and drinking habits is a good idea. It's weird how it is not messing with her health however, it is making her grow talelr or smaller.

The defense Mechanisms we discussed in class were
Repression
Projection
Reaction
Formation
Rationalization
Regression
Displacement
Transference/Counter-Transference
I think it would be a good idea to try to use these as a way to interpret the characters your thinking of. You can look back at the story and look for specific examples that support your Defense Mechanism on the Character.

The eating topic sounds good, but would be a very difficult paper to write. I would go with the defense mechanisms. There are a lot more examples with the defense mechanisms and it will be easier for you to make your point :D
